What happens to our excess stock?

I thought you might like to know what happens to the clothes we have left when we reach the end of a season. To begin with, some pieces simply deserve to stay.

Some of our styles have been with us for many years and, if something is loved, I keep it going. One of the things that makes me happiest is hearing from a customer who has had a favourite dress, shirt or pair of pyjamas, and loved it so much that they come back years later to buy the same piece again — perhaps in another colour.

Our wrap dresses, pyjamas and Gracie shirts, for example, have been part of the collection for many years. This is exactly what I hope for when I design a piece: something to be worn, enjoyed and returned to.

To be honest, the thought of producing an entirely new collection every season is exhausting — and I do not know how anyone does it without creating a huge amount of waste.

When I do decide to discontinue something, it first goes onto our sale page, which are updated regularly and are always worth keeping an eye on.

I also hold studio sales at our HQ in Hastings. I am delighted when someone can pick up a beautiful piece they may not otherwise have been able to afford. If you are ever down this way, please do come and have a look.

Some pieces are given to charity too. I am particularly proud of our support for the wonderful Royal Trinity Hospice, who have recognised the contribution we have made through their charity shops.

For me, this is what slow fashion is all about: making beautiful clothes in small quantities, keeping the good pieces in the collection, and giving every garment the longest possible life.
